    Dr. Milan Shipka, among other titles, is Associate Director of the Agricultural & Forestry Experiment Station, & Agriculture and Horticulture Department Chair.  

  • Mathew Carrick


    Mathew is the Garden’s Program Director, hired in 2017.   He is a UAF alumni and avid fan of spending time outdoors with family, both two- and four-legged.



  • Grant Matheke

    Grant retired April 30, 2014 after a long and productive career at the GBG. He helped develop the Garden back in 1989 and is the backbone behind the construction and landscape management of the garden.   • Kathleen Buchholz

    Kathleen joined the botanical garden staff in 2009 and transformed the front office into a well-organized program. She departed the GBG in 2015 and is greatly missed.

  • Janice Hanscom

    Jan worked for the Garden from 2000 to 2009. She managed the day-to-day operations of the garden, worked with volunteers and developed many children’s programs at the Garden.     Dr. Patricia S. Holloway.  Pat began the Georgeson Botanical Garden in 1989 and was its director as well as Professor of Horticulture, Department of High Latitude Agriculture at UAF.   • Dr. Steven Seefeldt

    Steve was the Advisor to the Georgeson Botanical Garden and the Agriculture and Horticulture Agent for the Tanana District. Steve now works at Washington State University Mt. Vernon Research and Extension Center.  He contributed to the Garden a grant to reinstate vegetable variety trials for the next 5 years.
